A bearded hacker, a bottle of vodka, and eternal vigilance

Somewhere in a grime-covered building in Poltava, Ukraine, a guy with a three-day beard named Igor is hunched over a laptop. There’s a half-empty bottle of vodka on the shelf above him.

But Igor isn’t drinking tonight.

He’s trying to hack into one of our websites, maintained by TreeFrogClick marketing.

But his efforts will be otkaz.

Our software shows that Igor (or whatever his name is) has tried twenty times to login to this website with the username of “admin.” No, we’re not so stupid as to use this default name for our login to our WordPress system.

In fact, when the alerts started coming in for hack attempts from Russia, Ukraine, China, and other suspicious-sounding countries for this site, we changed a few usernames on our client’s site, just to play it safe. There were several weak points.

Sorry Igor, you’ve been pobezhdennyy.

Igor, you can bang away on your nicotine-stained keyboard all night, but you won’t be able to plant your sneaky code to buy poached mink furs on our client’s website. Maybe you should get a real job.

Three steps to guard against malware

To keep all the Igors of the world at bay, we’ll give away some of our secrets. Here are the three basic ways to keep hackers from planting malware on your WordPress-platform website:

  1. Assign usernames that are not obvious. Never use the WordPress default name “admin.”
  2. Check and update your plugins every month. These are small programs that do special tasks, such as provide a contact form.
  3. Check and update your WordPress version to the latest one on a regular basis.

Malware Armor Plan™

The reason we can keep ahead of these vicious wolves is that we’ve developed a program called the Malware Armor Plan™. This plan is a software that protects your website from WordPress malware hackers. When something fishy happens, we are alerted right away and make sure the bad guys don’t break in.

It’s good prevention. What happens if they break in? It can take eight hours or more for a programmer to clean up your website’s files. No one wants those costs.

We developed this plan in response to hacker attempts we saw on the websites that we at TreeFrogClick built. But we know other sites are under attack as well. If you’ve been reading the industry literature, these attempts have been increasing over the years.

Let  us keep your website secure. We are so confident of our Malware Armor Plan™ that we guarantee that no one will plant malware on it. And if it slips in somehow, we will fix it at no cost.

How close are the cyber wolves from your website? You don’t want to find out.
