Mike Ditka and the power of push

Every football fan who was around during the ’85 Superbowl knows of the hard-hitting coach Mike Ditka.

“My grandmudder could tackle better den you guys,” is the kind of thing he would bark to his players.

And they responded. The hard-knuckles approach of “Iron Mike” worked. Yes, he was a hothead. He did throw a wad of gum at a very vocal woman in the stands. But his Chicago Bears won the Superbowl that season. And as a NFL player before his coaching career, Mike was the guy who went all out and gave 110% on every play.

You may be working as a consultant on your own, or labor as the head of your own company. You know that there’s no one above you. No one to get tough with you. So you have to be tough on yourself.

This is a discipline that is not easy to accomplish. That’s why most people work under a boss.

I just came across a short motivational video that brings out this concept even further. Scott Sargis is an executive recruiter and the head of Strategic Search Corporation.

You have to get tough on yourself. You must do what you don’t want to do.

Scott’s video is above. I hope it gets your engines running.
