Just yesterday I received an email from Facebook that shows that the social media giant is not flawless.
They told me, “You will now be able to create offers. There was a technical glitch in our system which has now been rectified. Sorry for the inconvenience.”
I had run into a problem while making an offer of a coupon for a small business in the area. I had been working on Facebook’s paid ad system, and asked them to fix the problem.
It just shows that as important as Facebook is for gaining business, you don’t want to put all your marketing eggs in one basket.
It’s good to keep in mind what marketing people refer to as the three types of media, easy to remember when you think of the word “POEM”:
P aid — Advertising that’s paid, such as Google or Facebook
O wned — Systems that are owned by you, such as your website, or email list
E arned — When others say nice things about you in public

It’s been said that Facebook occasionally shuts down a business page. You just get a message, “You have violated our terms of service.” What’s worse, there’s no other explanation for it. There’s no recourse to this decision. You can’t call anyone up to ask questions, either. Facebook figures that they are free, so you don’t have many rights.
As marketing expert Perry Marshall says, be careful of working as a serf on other people’s property. You might just be kicked off the land.
This is the reason why you need to have other media sources in your marketing basket. For example, you need an appealing website that serves as an anchor to your business. Secondly, you need a newsletter list, so you can reach people directly through their mailboxes.
Don’t get caught short like a serf who’s been kicked off his land. Add other marketing systems to your business as well.
